A lovely Art Deco
Austrian spelter in the style of Lorenzl,
circa 1925, "Gymnast".
Depicting a sporty lady, "frozen" in a pose,
with a gold cold-painted finish, with enameling,
mounted on an alabster plinth-
29cm high
This lovely art deco spelter figure has wonderful styling
with her slim body, long limbs and "sporty" attitude
(a theme also popular with F. Priess).
She is in good condition with the usual wear to the metallic
finish.
The alabaster has a repair.
Joseph Lorenzl, Austrian 1892-1950.
Probably now one of the best known of the Art Deco period
sculptors, Lorenzl is famous for his depiction of the slim boyish shape,
so desired in the 1920's, sculpting a wide range of figures
in dancing or coquettish poses, working in bronze, spelter and ceramic.
He also designed for the famous firms of Goldscheider, Hutschenreuther
and Keramos.
