A stunning rare art deco bronze by Joseph Lorenzl,
Vienna Austria circa 1925 "Pyjama Girl with Parrot"
the young woman posing in her chic pajama suit,
whilst holding a parrot.
Silvered and cold painted with polychrome decoration to the parrot,
mounted on a green Brazilian onyx base
31cm/12in high
Bronze marked Lorenzl
A few chips to the onyx and some wear to the bronze finish
commensurate with age.
This is a very rare all bronze version of an equally rare art deco
figure usually only seen with an ivory head (see the Elton John
art deco sale, Sothebys 1988, volume III, lot 879 and Arwas page
41 for bronze and ivory versions of this Lorenzl).
A really great Lorenzl art deco bronze figure!
Joseph Lorenzl, Austrian 1892-1950.
Probably now one of the best known of the Art Deco period
sculptors, Lorenzl is famous for his depiction of the slim boyish shape,
so desired in the 1920's, sculpting a wide range of figures
in dancing or coquettish poses, working in bronze, spelter and ceramic.
He also designed for the famous firms of Goldscheider, Hutschenreuther
and Keramos.
