A rare and beautiful Art Deco alabaster figure designed by Lorenzl
for Goldscheider, Austria 1930,
the naked young girl seated on a plinth,
her arms bound behind her back-

5.5in/14cm high
signed Lorenzl,
5636 W1 and with the brass Goldscheider applied seal
sold
This is a very unusual figure by Lorenzl.
Not only do you rarely see works in alabaster
by Lorenzl, erotic figures are also few and far between.
Joseph Lorenzl, Austrian 1892-1950.
Probably now one of the best known of the Art Deco period
sculptors.
Lorenzl is famous for his depiction of the slim boyish shape,
so desired in the 1920's, sculpting a wide range of figures
in dancing or coquettish poses.
He also worked in spelter, bronze and bronze/ivory,
and designed for the famous ceramic firms of Goldscheider,
Hutschenreuther and Keramos
