An art deco spelter figure in the style of Joseph Lorenzl,
circa 1930-
the young woman in dance tunic balancing balls in her out-stretced
arms, cold painted gold with silver and black details,
mounted on a black marble and white onyx base
39cm high
A few chips to the base and some wear to the finish commensurate with
age.
This is a very rare version of a figure that is usually found as a
lamp and attributed to Lorenzl because of her styling.
A very stylish figure!
Joseph Lorenzl, Austrian 1892-1950.
Probably now one of the best known of the Art Deco period
sculptors, Lorenzl is famous for his depiction of the slim boyish shape,
so desired in the 1920's, sculpting a wide range of figures
in dancing or coquettish poses. He also designed for the famous firms of
Goldscheider, Hutschenreuther and Keramos.
