Catherine Hough is one of the foremost glassmaker working in the
UK today. She counterbalances the opposing characteristics of
movement and stillness, weight and Balance through the mass of
the clear glass formas that she creates.
Involved in every part of the making process, Catherine has
developed as individual style through which she continually
strives to grow technically and artistically.
Catherine Hough (b.1948)
graduated from the Stourbridge College of Art in 1978. She spent two
years as Artist in Residence at Royal Brierley Crystal and then in 1980
joined The Glasshouse in London (which was set up by Sam Herman).
By the early eighties the core members were Annette Meech, Christopher
Williams, Steven Newell, David Taylor, Fleur Tookey and Catherine
Hough.
In the mid-eighties Steven Newell, Catherine Hough, and Simon Moore
left The Glasshouse and set up their own studio, (Glassworks, London) in
Islington.
In 1997 she formed her own company, Catherine Hough Glass.
