Karl Perl - An Art Deco Goldscheider figurine lamp, Vienna
Austria, designed circa 1923.
This uncommon figurine is inspired by the character of Prince
Sou-Chong from the operetta "Die gelbe Jacke" by Franz Lehár, which
premiered in Vienna on February 9th, 1923. The same character is in
the revised 1929 version "Das Land des Lächelns".
Restoration to fingers and lamp column.
Karl Perl ( March 3, 1876 – 1965) was an Austrian
sculptor and engraver, born in Liezen, Austria. He studied with
Hellmer, Zumbusch and Kundmann and created statuettes, plaques and
medallions in bronze with works in ceramic for Goldscheider and
Keramos. He worked and died in Vienna.
